Installing Python on Windows

Anaconda on Windows 10

This post is aimed at everyone who is still new in Python. We will discuss how to install Python on our system. Especially, installing python on windows system.

There are many ways to install python on windows. But, the one that I recommend is install using anaconda. Since it’s an easy lazy solution, but the results are quite nice. Okay, let’s start.

0. Download the Conda installer. Here, I recommend choosing Python 3.7 over Python 2.7. The reason is python 2.7 may discontinue soon. Go to this link and choose python 3.7.x and choose the windows system. don’t forget to choose 32 or 64bits.

Before you double-click the anaconda installer, I recommend temporarily disabling your antivirus during the installation and reactivated again after the installation finish.

1 Double-click the installer and next, next, next… Easy lazy boom boom boom.

2 I recommend installing in the default directory since anaconda prefers to install in the directory path with no space. Another recommendation, choose “just me” there are many user accounts on your PC.

3 Next, do not add the anaconda into PATH, it may interfere with other software. But, later you need to open the anaconda from the anaconda prompt in the start menu.

4. Next, next, next, next, Finish.

5. You may install PyCharm IDE if you need it. If you think Notepad++ or Sublime is enough then just fine. 🙂

To verify your installation, open the anaconda prompt from your start menu and type

python –version

That code will check the python version that is installed on your computer. It will return s with something like

Python 3.7.6

So you should be proud of yourself, you just finished installing Python! But if you encounter any problem you may consider reading the anaconda manual book or ask StackOverflow, or you may drop the questions on the comment box below.
